07 July 1930 - Construction of the Boulder Dam,
now known as the Hoover Dam, began.
Construction of the Boulder Dam, now known as the Hoover Dam, began.
The Hoover Dam is a concrete arch gravity dam in the Black Canyon of the Colorado River, on the border between the U.S. states of Nevada and Arizona.
Constructed between 1931 and 1936, during the Great Depression, it was dedicated
30 September 1935, by President Franklin D. Roosevelt.
Its construction was the result of a massive effort involving thousands of workers,
and cost over 100 lives.
The Hoover Dam generates about 4 billion kilowatt-hours of hydroelectric power each year, serving Nevada, Arizona, and California.
It has a capacity of over 2,000 megawatts and can serve the annual electrical needs of nearly 8 million people.

Now, imagine something happened and the power suddenly stopped flowing.
What would all 8 million people do for power?
It is important for Businesses and Communities to know from where their power
is coming, and what the possibilities and probabilities are of that source shitting down.
In your Emergency Planning, you need to consider what your backup(s) are
so your business can continue functioning and serving clients.
You may be thinking this will not affect you since you are in the mid west.
If may not, but consider where your supplies are located.
If your major supplier is in Southern California, and shuts down,
what is your backup plan?
This is just a snippet of why Disaster Preparedness is so important!
